Since each group has a different vocabulary term, we are going to teach each other the vocab in an activity called a jigsaw.

The past two days we have been learning the vocabulary. We are using a Frayer Model in class to learn about our terms. This units vocabulary is:

Subduction Zone
Divergent
Convergent
Transform
Continental Plate
Oceanic Plate
Convection
Tectonic Plate

Alfred Wegener's hypothesis "Continental Drift" was not completely correct, he didn't know why the continents would seperate. Today we are going to see what convection is and demonstrate how it is responcible for the moving continents.

Mark Twain said "a crank is someone with a new idea -- until it catches on." We are looking at the life and timess of Alfred LOTHAR Wegener and how is hypothesis of Continental Drift was accepted by the scienctific community.

We have learned a lot about the strutcure of the Earth over the past three weeks. Today is the final day of the layers of the Earth and you need to show what you learned. We are writing a science fiction story about what it would be like to travel to the Inner Core. Your stories are Due Friday October 22nd!!!!

Using our knowledge of the layers of the Earth and scale from maps, we are going to create a model of the Earth. Remember to bring your calculators and a jacket to class.

In class we have learned about each layer of the Earth and we are going to take that information and put it to music. Each table group is going to come up with their own "layers of the Earth rap".

Yesterday we made it through the "silly putty" Asthenosphere and now have reached the largest layer of the earth: the Mesosphere. We will explore the mesosphere and convection today.

As we continue moving down into the Earth we are met today by the Asthenosphere. If the Lithosphere is the cookie part of an Oreo then the "white stuff" is the asthenosphere. We are also going to introduce a new vocabulary term "convection".

Our first stop on our "Race to the Core" is the top layer, the Lithosphere. Today we are going to learn how to take notes along with introducing this first layer.
