Scientist like to make things complicated. Instead of layers like layer 1,2,3.. they choose words like Lithosphere, Asthenosphere, and Mesosphere. Today we are going learn the names of the layers of the Earth and show creative ways to remember them.

Today you are going begining our journey to the center of the Earth. No, this not going to be about that lame Brendan Fraiser movie! Instead we are going to see what is the Earth really like on the inside!

The Dinosaurs are here and we will explore them. This is the last day of our unit on Geologic History as well as the last day of the 1st Trimester.

After millions of years of waiting we are finally going to explore the world of the dinosaurs. From the humble roots in the Triassic to their explosion in the Jurassic and their final demise in the Cretaceous.

From the earliest signs of dinosaurs to modern bird, we are going to see how dinosaurs began as small 4 legged lizards and grew into the terrible lizards of today. Remember the end of the term is right around to the corner.

Fossils.

How are fossils made? What is a Fossil? Where can I find fossils? We are going to answer those questions and open actual fossil bearing rocks from the John Day Fossil Beds.

Exploring the past

Now that we have seen how the geologic timeline was built, we are going to look at the events that are actually on it. We will be in the computer lab using the links under "cool websites" and writing about a single event in Geologic History.

Imagine I could shrink you down to the size of an atom. In fact I could turn you into a atom of Rubidium. You would see that randomly you would change or decay. Today we are going to investigate how this change can be used by scientist to put absolute dates on rocks and fossils. We are going to use many of our math skills to build graphs and charts.

Today our lab is going to take us from putting things in order to finding out exact dates of the different things around us. We are going to dissect an "animal" called Bagamus clearus. Looking at the internal "organs" we can figure out exactly how long ago the animal died.

What came first the Nougat or the Peanuts in a snickers bar. Using the laws of geology that we learned on friday we are going to see first hand the order that a snickers bar is made.
